Origin of the isotope effect on solid friction

چکیده
Friction of hydrogen-passivated surfaces can be reduced by replacing terminating hydrogen atoms with heavier deuteriums. Using molecular-dynamics simulations, we show that this experimentally observed isotope effect can be explained quantitatively by small differences in surface coverage, which are due to isotopedependent bond stabilities. We also demonstrate that a change in vibrational frequencies alone does not account for an isotope-dependent solid friction in our model system.

Origin and evolution of ore-forming fluids in the magnetite±apatite Lake Siah deposit (Bafq): Evidence of fluid inclusions and oxygen stable isotope
The Lake Siah magnetite ± apatite deposit is situated in the northeastern of Bafq and Central Iran tectonic zone. The host rock of deposit is composed from lower Cambrian volcano-sedimentary sequence that has exposed as caldera complex. The iron mineralization is as massive ore and includes magnetite and hematite which form with apatite, quartz and calcite gangue minerals. Based on fluid inclus...
متن کاملEffect of Heat Input on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Friction Stir Welding of HSLA-60
High-strength low alloy steels are a class of steels used in applications that require high strength and good weldability, including ship hulls, gas pipelines and oil industry. One way to build parts is fusion welding that create areas with a large grain size in the heat-affected zone and increased susceptibility to hydrogen cracking. One way to solve this problem is to use solid state friction...

متن کاملIsotope Substitution of Promiscuous Alcohol Dehydrogenase Reveals the Origin of Substrate Preference in the Transition State
The origin of substrate preference in promiscuous enzymes was investigated by enzyme isotope labelling of the alcohol dehydrogenase from Geobacillus stearothermophilus (BsADH). At physiological temperature, protein dynamic coupling to the reaction coordinate was insignificant. However, the extent of dynamic coupling was highly substrate-dependent at lower temperatures. For benzyl alcohol, an en...

Friction stir welding is a relatively new solid state joining process, which is suitable for welding similar and dissimilar materials. The present research work concentrates on the effect of tool rotational speed on the tensile, microstructural properties and microhardness of the friction stir welded joints of different grades of austenitic stainless steel sheets. Four different tool rotationa...
